Cricket orchestras
perform
wheat field concerts
and I can see
the flattened straw
where we dreamed
and made love
safe from the distant
porch light
while the stars
became our blanket
and sweat dampened
the earth
and fingers clawed
trying to hold on
to tomorrow's
inevitable
goodbye
