A Brief Winter Sunset
The winter's heavy blanket lay
Across the sky in shades of gray
An inch or so of snow was fresh
But cheerless in the gloominess
Until above an evening hill
I watched a glow break through the chill
It framed the farm and trees up there
Then faded into cold night air
