Indifference? / R.K. Singh

INDIFFERENCE?

Being good
couldn’t make me know
any better

I was harmless
they sold my name
and became
what I couldn’t

in the middle of daylight
I vanished like names
from voters’ list

with no difference
to who wins
or who loses

2 poems / R.K. Singh

DEAD OR ALIVE

My shrinking body
even if I donate
what's there for research?

devil in the spine
abusing tongue in sleep
or bleeding anus

defy all prayers
on bed or in temple
the same heresy

oozing and stinking
onanist excursion
dead or alive

- R/K. Singh, 2013

CLAY DREAMS

They make my face
ugly in my own sight
what shall I see in the mirror?

there is no beauty
or holiness left
in the naked nation:

the streams flow dark
and the hinges of doors moan
politics of corruption

I weep for its names
and the faces they deface
with clay dreams

My Silence (1-3) / R.K. Singh

from MY SILENCE (1974-1984)

1

She is the tree
green and wide
abundantly dressed
overflowing
spreading her sleeves
blesses all
in her cool shade
solitude teems
with breezy songs
I feel
nearer God

2

That autumn tree
from this window
looks like a young woman
naked
exciting birds
to come
kiss and play
tomorrow
when spring will return
she will be too lovely
to touch

3

I feel her hyaline influx
in my deep love leaps
from the soul with subtle glows
her breath runs through my veins:
this vassal of the flesh blushes
as I drink the infinite in her

My Silence (4-6) / R.K. Singh

from MY SILENCE (1974-1984)

(1 - 3)

4

I clasp your hands
and feel the blood
running savagely
through your arteries
in tulip silence

5

Is it the perfume
or your body
that makes the night
drunken?

your lush lips
ripple fire
in beautiful silence

your fragrance radiates
flowers and water

can I seek
my voice
in your breasts?

6

Blind
I see her beauty
deaf
I hear her melody
ignorant
I partake of her knowledge
poor
I share her wealth
in-drawn
her vision reigns my heart

yet the darkness of dust
veils my being
I don’t understand
the hidden words

though I sit
under her tree of love
she’s still away from me
just one pace
if I could take
I enter
the pavilion of eternity

Midnight Cry / R.K. Singh

MIDNIGHT CRY

No use abusing
or cursing anyone when
restless and breathless
I cry to God to help me
for a while let me sleep

sexless meditate
in the darkest of hours
negotiate peace
with self and rest even if
I exist in my sufferings

Threat / R.K. Singh

THREAT

We chase myths in self-made Amazons
fish turtles that change colour in new waters

we create landscape of nightmares and wade through
anacondas that threaten our confidence

lost in the jungles of our own making
we beat about the thorny grasses now

look for the twin flames for convenience
cloud judgment and reality for control

challenge the Republic and divide
the defence that could never be
