FEATURED:

Featured Poems & Calendars

Featured Poems

In 2020, to mark The Penny Blog's 10th anniversary, we began adding monthly Featured Poems. Each month we would select a best poem from the old archives and promote it along with that month's new poetry. Only poems that had been on the blog for at least ten years would be eligible – our idea was to highlight excellent poems we had posted at the beginning that never found an audience (since our reach was so low back then). The following year, for the record, we began including the Featured Poem notices on the blog while continuing to send them out in promotions.

This year (2026) we are taking the next step, and giving the Featured Poems their own dedicated page. We have built up a great list of them in the past five years, which can only improve in time. This page is the best of the best, The Penny Blog's equivalent of a poetry Hall of Fame.

If you are new to the blog, these poems are a good place to start; we hope that even our regulars will be able to find and like new poems and poets here. Enjoy!

Calendars

Since 2012, we have been posting poetic calendars: sonnet or other series of 12 poems, one for each month, running (with some variations) over the course of a year. We have added ten such calendars to date. (Note that these series have to be manually navigated to be read in order; the starting link is to the first or January poem in the series, and each poem's page has a link to the one following.)
