June / H. Cordelia Ray

Agathe Pilon (1777-1846), Roses in a Vase.

June

Roses, roses, roses,
Creamy, Fragrant, dewy!
        See the rainbow shower!
Was there e'er so sweet a flower?
I'm the rose-nymph June they call me.
Sunset's blush is not more fair
Than the gift of bloom so rare,
Mortal, that I bring to thee!

  1. Interesting syllable count per line: 6/6/6/8/8/7/7/7.

Inspired by H. Cordelia Ray's poem Roes in a Vase...

    PLUCK A PETAL

    Daisies, daisies, daisies,
    Pluck a petal or two.
Does he love me or not,
The daisy will tell me if so?
I am the one flower that speaks,
Speaks for those who cannot speak.
Of a love that can't settle,
"Of course he loves you Petal!"

PICK A DAISY PLUCK A PETAL

    Daisy, daisy, daisy,
    Pluck a petal or two.
"Does he love me or not?"
This picked daisy will tell you true.
I am the one flower who speaks,
Speaks for those who cannot speak
Of a love that can't settle.
"Of course he loves you Petal!"
